CBS promised us a shocker in the first 10 minutes and boy were they right. This kind of lead-in typically misdirects us into nothing, but read on and let me know if you agree with my assessment.
After recapping last episode, we head over to Galang to check in on Zen Beach . While most of the tribe is having a good time chatting about Tyson’s crotchcake buckle, Colton decides now is the best time to discuss strategy. Geez, let the tribe have their morning coffee, will ya, Cumbie? And they quickly tell him to shut it. Again, he’s lamenting that no one wants to play with him and discuss strategy, but what did he expect? Did he think that everyone’s just going to play “his game?”
“They’re scared of me…”
Uh, yeah, no. I don’t think anyone’s scared of Colton . Not here on this island in the Philippines or back in Alabama . Honestly, I think he’s delusional, but that’s my take. We all know I don’t like that kid…
Later, Colton asks Aras if his days are numbered and he’s told “yes.” At least Aras gave him the benefit of a straight answer! He could have just lied (what normally happens when you ask a dumb question) but Aras was just straight up. Props to him. And then Aras goes even farther and tells Colton that “something could happen to change it up again” so don’t freak out and lose your mind.
I think that’s a pretty straight up revelation that needn’t be given to a returning player, but that’s what makes Colton … Colton … Just a little boy in a big boy’s game.
Off to Redemption Island we go and both tribes are about to witness the big challenge. We all expect this is where the big “shocker” is going to play out, but let’s see what transpires… Galang can see that Rachel was voted out, and it looks like Tyson’s none too happy. You can almost see his brain spinning about what his next move should be. Could it be that he’ll change places with his SO…?
As the competitors march into the arena, Jeff asks Tyson for his initial reaction to seeing Rachel. In true Tyson form, he just repeats what Tadhana was thinking when they voted out Rachel. Namely, that he’d consider switching. He even gets in a “Tyson burn” and says “they must be having a hard time right now” if that was their move.
Rachel is asked if that’s what’s happening and she confirms it. And then she calls out Brad as the pseudo leader of Tadhana and that he’s “lining up his game right now” so at least she was able to place a big target on Brad’s back. She can still do some damage, that one!
Tyson is then given the opportunity to switch places with her but he defers the decision to Rachel, who tells him what everyone already knows. That he has a better chance to win the game so no need for the switch. He informs Tadhana (with mucho machismo) that they’d better watch out for the Tysonator from now on in challenges. (Let’s see if he becomes a monster from now on!). He also calls out Brad for the smug look on his face and it’s on like Donkey Kong…
Brad throws it back that Galang’s celebrating (Gervase’s) after wins is uncool, since Tadhana has to then go vote someone off (one of Galang’s loved ones). “You haven’t had to make the difficult decisions that we’ve had to make and then vote someone off.”
But rather than pissing off Galang with his barbs, it’s Stink Eye who takes the biggest offense. We know she’s pissed that she was voted off first at Tribal, her argument being they should have kept the tribe strong. Brad’s retort:
“We’re playing Survivor, babe, maybe there’s more to it than that.”
Now I’m not one to have a problem being called “babe,” but many people do, especially women who don’t want to be called “babe” by some dude they don’t really know. She obviously disagrees with Mr. Culpepper’s contention, and Stink Eye utters the best line of the season so far:
“F**k you, Brad Culpepper!”
Finally, REALITY television…! That’s exactly what’s supposed to be said when someone calls you out.
I read something from Vytas that said the challenge was actually best of 3 gets the point – so when he did that fake out on Aras he actually got Aras in the water. Then, Aras won the other two rounds to get the point for his team against his brother.
Apparently the producers are not too upset with Colton since he is on the after show (Anyone watch it?) I LOVED that Jeff called him out and brought up that he faked appendicitis when he quit the first time! I just wonder if seeing his fiancé act like such a jerk on national television will have any effect on Caleb
erica: that’s very interesting. I didn’t consider that they’d cut out so much of the competition. I know that’s the show’s perogitive, but you’d think they’d at least tell us! I get it though… Where’d you read that from Vytas?
Bryan, I follow him on Twitter. I try not to read too much while I’m watching the show because I do like to just watch it for what it is. But, sometimes it’s interesting – he tweeted during the show last night. Are you on Twitter? BTW, enjoying your recaps – something I definitely look forward to the day after Survivor.
Deciding whether to hook up a Twitter account. It’s just SO MUCH WORK to maintain it the way it deserves. I do Facebook, but that’s a personal thing for friends and family. Maybe I’ll get a Twitter, just to post funny stuff. I’ll be the only one on Twitter with one follower. Thanks for reading, Erica… 🙂
Let me know if you do! Even if you just link to your Survivor post each week.
