SURVIVOR: FANS VS FAVORITES – 5/1/13

May 2nd, 2013 | 3 Comments | Posted in Survivor - Fans vs Favorites

Once they made it back to camp, I came to the realization that this was a lackluster final 7. I think we always come to that realization, though. Survivor has long been a game where many of the “strong” are voted out early, the weak are always kept in the game because they’re weak, and the “smart” players who don’t thrive in physically-based challenges last longer because they band together to vote out the stronger ones, and because they do well in puzzle challenges and/or endurance ones. I don’t pretend to believe that the physical challenge victories have more bearing than endurance ones, but it’s just the physical, high-level sports background in me that prefers seeing the “strong” compete in games like this. I’d be the guy who would have rooted against Katniss in The Hunger Games. Although I enjoy her accuracy with an arrow, I’d much rather see the muscleheads beat the crap out of each other in the end, not someone cut a bees nest out of a tree to ward off her attackers! But, I guess that’s why games like Big Brother and Survivor are so popular, because even the “every day (wo)man” can win.

Remember Cochran telling us he wanted to suck up some power. Well, I think we’re seeing his first move with him telling Brenda and Dawn that Andrea wants one of them out, and that she wants to blindside them. I’d respect this move a little more if Andrea never said this to him, because that’s the kind of vindictive thing a powerful person would do in a game like this. Him ratting out Andrea is more of a b*tch move. But, still, it can get him closer to what he’s looking to gain. Although, I think he’s going to soon learn that it’s more just going to increase his power only by removing someone else with more power than he. He’s not really sucking any power away. Truly, I think him telling Brenda and Dawn about this only gives Brenda more power. He’ll just be moving from under Andrea’s wing to now being under Brenda’s. I’m not sure any of this is making any sense. It’s getting late and I’m having trouble coming up with the words I need to explain what I’m trying to get at. Basically, I’m just saying that Cochran is making the right move, but just going about it the right way. If anyone did need to go, it would be Andrea. She’d be the one we’d say has the power in this group. She’s the right blindside to make, but if Cochran is trying to take over her spot at the top, he’s not going about doing that by telling Brenda and Dawn that she is trying to get one of them out. He should have gone to them and started talking up how he thinks it’s the right move to blindside her tonight. Start laying down a plan, getting them to hop on board, and then all of the sudden it’s become your idea, your plan, and now you have them coming to you for direction and strategy. Instead, you’re the weasel who is ratting out Andrea, and now it becomes Brenda’s plan to vote her out. Harvard is very disappointed in you. I’m disappointed in you. Enjoy coming in 3rd place this season.

Oh God, more split vote talk. Can we really just end this talk. How many times are we going to have to put up with this? We get it, you’re scared.

I think the only important thing that came out of that tribal council is that Reynold’s mustache is on steroids! He grew that thing in one day? How come he didn’t have that ‘stache the entire season? If he grew that in one day after being voted off, where was it all season long? I’m not buying that thing was real. It couldn’t be. He didn’t have a mustache AT ALL when he was voted off and he comes back with THAT? I think an investigation needs to be done on this. Also, I’m jealous. I wonder if mine would grow in like that. I know I can’t grow it in one day, but I may have to give it a try. That thing was epic. I need in on that.

“WHAT?”

Andrea was just as surprised as we…oh wait, we weren’t surprised! Andrea gets voted out with an idol in her pocket. She just had too much confidence in her game. She could smell that million. She was already planning on how she was going to spend it. And, that’s when you know you’re about to lose. Unless you’re me, I have that kind of confidence and I never lose!!

We have just one more episode next Wednesday, and then the finale is on Mother’s Day! Survivor doesn’t have any love for the mother’s in the world. Apparently, they want them to spend their entire day glued to the TV, watching their 3-hour finale special. We can do this, though! We just have to get through 4 more hours of this crud of an ending and we’ll be done…for like 3 months until the next Survivor starts! Well, maybe 4 months. Typically, they wait until after Big Brother is over, and then start another season, so maybe we’ll be seeing it again in September. Hopefully, there won’t be any returning contestants on that season!

Until next week,

  1. OH GAHHH, I hope Sherri doesn’t win.

I’m hoping that it’s Cochran who pulls out a win this season. He reminds me of Ian from last summer’s Big Brother; he’s nerdy, he’s kind of laying low, everybody’s friend, he’s won challenges but isn’t considered a threat, etc. While his “big moves” aren’t necessarily earth shattering and he’s not leading the group, like you’ve said a “winner” should play, Ian didn’t do this either (until closer to the end) and he still won.

I don’t know, just my thoughts.

  2. I think Probst brought up the immunity deal thing with them basically for entertainment purposes, because they knew Andrea was considering Brenda a threat after she fought for immunity. All I think Probst was doing there was his job – stirring the pot, seeing if someone would say it out loud, get the scheming. He does that a lot.

I have to say, as soon as Malcolm got booted last week, I also thought its pretty much going to be boring for the rest of the season. It was clear that Reddie would be leaving soon too, or at least Reynold – and I don’t see Eddie having any chance of winning so he doesn’t really matter anymore. Especially since he left the immunity challenge. I guess survivor thought it was boring too, since they essentially put two episodes into one. What is it – 6 people left, and only 1 episode left before finale? Obviously the rest of the season is boring for them to fast track it. Out of the 6, in all honesty, only Cochran and Dawn have actually done stuff to deserve to be in final. As a whole I don’t know if they really deserve it, but out of the 6 remaining, those are the only 2 that could argue they did something. Erik thinks he’s doing stuff but he’s not – I don’t think his team even knew he voted for fillup, as Probst didn’t show that the last vote was for Phillip (didn’t need to) so they probably assumed the last vote was for who the big alliance voted for, if they knew that, they might have tried to get Erik out. Brenda? Eddie? Sherri? Nothing, nothing, nothing. I think they should call this survivor ‘and the meek shall inherit the earth’.

  3. Without Malcolm this season of Survivor has gotten extremely boring and predictable. I don’t even know who I’m rooting for anymore! You know even cbs has given up on the season when they start squeezing multiple tribals in one episode. why not just have one tribal with a double elimination, now that may actually shake things up! That would make them scramble. Lets see them “split the vote” (gag me) in that situation!

Ok I need to lodge a complaint here: why all of a sudden do the survivor editors feel the need to throw in a shot of a snake every 5 seconds?! As someone with a snake phobia it’s terrible! I spend more time covering my eyes than watching! Scott I fully expected you to make some reference to Malcolm’s resemblance to a pirate at his first tribal after getting voted out. Ahoy me matey my way!
