At the Immunity challenge, we learn it’s going to be another game involving throwing a “ball” of some sort. Who is the new challenge coordinator this season – Dwight “Doc” Gooden? I’m sure he’s hard-up for cash these days with all those drug problems he had over his lifetime. Sherri kinda screwed over her team from the get-go by missing the key on her first swing, and allowing the Favorites to open up a gaping gap between the two tribes. And, Phillip felt inspired by Doc Gooden’s game that he fashioned himself a pitcher himself, taking his time to wind up before chucking each fastball, winning the challenge for his tribe, pulling it out in the end. From the distance they were throwing from, and the fact that it’s hard to hit one target when that’s all that’s left like it was for the challengers, I have to give it up to Phillip for that one. I thought, at first, the Favorites were dumb for not letting Malcolm do the throwing, but kudos to Phillip for dominating that one. Also, I’m guessing that challenge took a LONG time to finish. If you don’t think so, go outside, place 20 bottles on a fence post, stand 15 feet away and try and knock them all over. Oh, and starve yourself for 10 days before doing so.
Back at the Gota beach, Matt brings up the idea that they should vote Laura out because she’s the weakest member of the tribe. Did they all miss Sherri screwing up the challenge for them? They’re seriously going to say that Laura struggling with the keys was the worst part of the challenge? It’s just like with the challenge before where Eddie lost it for them by struggling with hitting his targets, they’re not seeing that they just have a weak tribe, and Reynold is the only reason they’ve done well in ANY challenge. He’s the reason they won the only challenge they won. They’ve been WAY behind in just about every challenge they’ve competed in, and the only ones that were close were mostly due to Reynold, or the fact that they were “short” challenges that didn’t require long tasks by all members of the tribe (like the reward challenge). Matt is missing the point here, for his tribe. Even though Laura is weak – she’s on your side. You can trust her. You also know that she has NO chance at winning the entire game of Survivor. Those are the type of people you want to keep around. You don’t keep around people like Eddie and Reynold. You don’t want to get them in the individual immunity challenges, because most of those challenges, you’re going to lose to them. And, you’ll never have to worry about someone like Laura beating you. Oh, and Laura is less likely to jump ship on your alliance once the merge comes, since she’s weak and nobody is going to care to align with her. But, someone like Eddie and Reynold – people are going to flock to them immediately. They’ll vote you out the second the merge comes. But, hey, go ahead, fall into the PBS trap and keep them around. I just don’t get why you didn’t fall into the trap with the girls, Hope and Allie, and vote out Reynold and Eddie first so you could have the girls all to yourself? Something we should know about you, Matt?!?
Matt tells Sherri about his plan and Sherri seems worried, but more for the reason that it makes the men strong compared to the women. It would just leave Sherri and Julia, I think. In all honesty, we don’t see ANY other girls other than Sherri, so I don’t even know if there are other girls on this tribe. So, yes Sherri, you should be worried that they want to vote out Laura! But, you not making a bigger fuss out of it makes me think you agreed to vote her out, as well. Sorry Laura, it’s not looking good for you right now. You can talk up splitting the vote again, but I think your time may be up. As soon as you get voted out, you need to eat something, sweetie, because your body NEEDS food!! I’m serious, your spinal cord called me, and asked for some bologna. Eat something.
At Tribal, Jeff doesn’t really say much to these people. I think he’s given up on this tribe, and probably even this season. You think he can tell, while filming, if they have a winner of a season or not? And, if he thinks not, he just throws it in the towel, basically showing up and collecting a check. I must be tired, because I can’t think of the stupid phrase that goes along with what I mean right here. I know as soon as I send this off to Steve to publish I’m going to think of what I’m trying to say and be UBERPISSED about it! God, what is it….so angry right now. I just googled 15 different stupid things that no google bar has ever seen before trying to come up with this phrase. Someone help me out in the comments…
Anyway, some pointless things were brought up about making a tribe strong, losing with or without the “strong” guys, breaking up an alliance, and other cliche things we’ve already heard in the 46 seasons of Survivor before this one!
Laura got voted out. That’s all that really matters in the end, right?
And, honestly, I didn’t see that one coming. I really thought they’d be “smart” and vote out Eddie, keeping their alliance strong. Even if they went to the merge with 5 strong allies, they could easily try and sway a vote or two to come to their side from the Bikal tribe, to even things up. You just broke up your alliance for no real good reason. Sherri should know now that Matt and Michael are with Eddie and Reynold. I guarantee they vote out Sherri or the other chick, Julia I think is her name, the next tribal council they’re at.
Although, judging by The Half-Turd’s blowup in the previews for next week, I’m guessing the Fans finally pull out a victory and the Favorites need to go to Tribal to send someone home. And, that someone SHOULD be Brandon. We’ll see, though.
Until then,

I think the phrase you were looking for is “phoning it in.” I also think you are correct about the casting of the “fans” because if they truly are fans of the show they have to be the dumbest ones they could find.
That was seriously silly of Shamar to crouch on the platform, he could have stood in the middle as support beam. I think Cochran and Laura should talk, I think they could have good, intelligent conversations. Just saying.
It was “mailing it in.” I thought of it as I was lying down, going to sleep. Of course.
But, yes, “phoning it in” works, as well. Ugh – such a dumb mistake on my part…
I thought Cochran was hilarious when he was describing the bushman at camp, how he was doing housekeeping and ‘bumping and grinding’ with the girls? And how he would be perceived as a creepy predator if he tried to do the things Tata did, lol…
I agree, I think Cochran’s comments about the bushman were funny, and spot on. He’s made me laugh a few times.
I noticed too this years challenges have a lot of throwing – maybe they were trying to cater to Malcolm this season or something, I think Probst really liked Malcolm, maybe the survivor gods did too, and want him to win. But, I have been enjoying the originality of the challenges -‘a lot better than in recent seasons where it did feel like they were phoning it in. This year they gap have been rather elaborate set ups, would have taken a lot of time,
And, while I agree with you Scott that they should have stuck with their alliance, I really didn’t want them too, I think this will make the show more interesting – because if they kept their original alliance, I honest think the fav’s would have picked them off. Like you said, others will be pulled towards Eddie and Reynold, and I think that will make for an interesting game for us to watch anyway. But, you know when it comes to Reynold I suffer a bit from PBS myself, and I would have been sad not to see him next week 😉 might have been a factor. Sherri is the only girl I liked from that team, so I hope she sticks around, I think if she aligns right come the merge, she could go far. She reminds me a bit of Denise from last season.
hi scott 🙂 i love your recaps! the only survivor blog i read. i read a few of the bachelor ones and you are definitely up there with the funniest blogs about silly “reality” tv shows. this is the first comment i’ve made on any! so umm yeah, you’re super special.
i agree with most of what you have to say each week and appreciate how articulately you point out all the absurd in this show, be it the “characters” or editing or the lack of actually HIDING the HIDDEN immunity idols! i mean sheesh.
but what i really want to know is if you, or anyone besides myself (i haven’t seen anyone mention it) has noticed something. does anyone else see Sandra Bullock
every time Sherri is on screen?? the resemblance is pretty serious
Thanks, aliceswonderland!! I feel pretty special. 🙂
I think it may just be you – I don’t see any Sandra Bullock resemblance. But, I’ll give it another look next week.
Odd coincidence here. Two controversial and heated characters, Colton and now Shamar, were removed for medical purposes. They don’t want to portray the LGBT community wrong and obviously don’t want to offend the Marines and military. Not saying it’s set up but two of the loudest and most confrontational players in survivor history were both medically removed. Strange. Thoughts?
Interesting discussion on hidden immunity idols

Also, there is a picture of Sherri in there, and I have to say, I do now see the Sandra Bullock resembalance.
I won’t ever put anything past production studios, but I don’t think they pulled those two guys for anything other than they were truly injured. They have the choice to edit these people any way they seem fit, so they’re the ones choosing to show the “negative” side of things. And, since reality shows LOVE drama, why would they want to send those two home when that’s all they’re doing. You may be on to something, but I don’t think so. But, I’ve been wrong before…
Scott — Love the blog! I must agree I think everyone loves Malcolm and I’m rooting for him to win this time around. He’s one of the best to watch, or at least was last season. They aren’t giving him nearly as much air time this go around. Philip was super annoying the first time on, but this time he’s simply hysterical.
Quick question — any idea why Jeff only wears blue shirts???
@Aliceswonderland – I see Sandra Bullock EVERY TIME!!!!!! It was driving me silly.
yess! i’m not the only one! 🙂
thanks Cndgirl and recklessstarlight!
ok Scott, seeee?? now you have to think about that at least once when she’s on tonight! and if you tell me you don’t see it i will stop reading!! just kidding, no i won’t. but let me know if you do! 🙂
