SURVIVOR: PHILIPPINES – 10/24/12

Also, that’s not psychology, Abi. Penner didn’t use psychology on you to barter a deal for the sandwiches in exchange for their rice bag. He used negotiations. Humongo difference. Go back to Brazil. Send back a prettier Brazilian girl to take your place for the rest of the show.

Back at Kalabaw, Carter is starting to regret agreeing to the deal to give up all of their rice. Even though they just had that huge meal the night before, he’s starving again, and the fact that they have no rice and Penner can’t catch any fish is starting to hit home for him (and the rest of the tribe). But, hey, Penner caught himself two baby minnow turds for you all to eat, so it’s not like the man lied to you. He said he would catch some fish, he never said how big those fish would be. And, I’d also like to add that is some crafty spear work to catch those tiny @ss fish. Anyone could hit some big @ss stingray with a spear, how about you go and try and bag two fish the size of your pinky finger, hotshot!

At the immunity challenge, Survivor brings back one of my favorite competitions. The slingshot, baseball-like game where they have to catch the balls in fishing nets. Seems as if Jeff Kent should have this one in the bag, huh? And, for two straight shots, he does, catching 2 for his team, and giving his team the lead. I’d like to go ahead and praise Jeff Probst here for not making mention of Jeff Kent’s baseball past/prowess. Although, anyone who knows baseball remembers that Jeff Kent was more known for his hitting ability than anything he ever did on defense, so it’s not as if this was his dead-on type of challenge. I’m guessing, though, if he had a fishing net back in his days at second base, he may have done himself a little better.

And, just as I was praising Kent in my notes, he goes and slips while trying to outdo Malcolm for a ball, Malcolm catches it, and gives Tandang the victory! So much for this competition being Jeff’s for the taking! Looks as if Katie may be taking her fine @ss back home to Delaware in a few minutes! It was nice not really getting to know you.

Back at camp, Kent actually has the nerve to blame the loss on Carter, because he let Malcolm catch two balls, even though it was Kent who let Malcolm catch that third one and win the immunity for his tribe. But, hey, blame who you need to blame to sleep at night, sir. Maybe it was Barry Bonds’ fault. You never liked that son of a b*tch, either. Even tried to punch him once. And then almost got choked out by Barry. Why not take a swing at Carter then? Speaking of punches, Kent talks to us about wanting to deal out “The Penner Punch,” where they blindside Penner at Tribal by voting him out. He tells Carter they need to get him out now, instead of Katie, but Carter isn’t so sure about it because he wants Penner to make it to the merge with him, because he knows that nobody wants a returning player to win, so that would make him less of a target after the merge. I’m not so sold on that strategy, because he has no idea what is going on at the other tribe with Skupin, but I do agree that it would be dumb to get rid of Penner over Katie. They need to win a challenge, and if they keep Katie over Penner, they’re just going to become the new Matsing tribe, being picked off one by one.

  1. I’ve got to admit, I thought this episode sucked.

Neither tribe considered options they might use if the teams got stuck in a stand-off where the ball was not moving so, “for the first time ever in Survivor history!” there was a negotiated win. Boneheads.

And I have to ask: WHY was Probst so bent on picking on Katie, stating that she was either useless or holding the rest of her tribe back during competitions? He did the same during the previous episode.

Why did he have such a major hate-on for her? Even his trademark smirk while intoning “The Tribe Has Spoken” was smirkier than usual.

That said, Katie needed to go. Deciding to keep Penner as a stronger competitor and, more importantly, as a major target once the tribes merge, was a smart move.

Well, despite the suckiness of the most recent episode, I’m going to keep watching. I think both Denise and Malcolm are both awesome players and hope they’re smart enough to stay under the radar – while proving their worthiness – while everyone else plots each other’s demise.

Cheers to my fellow Survivor Fans. May the Probst be with you!

  2. Is it just me or is Abi a nut job!? If I was RC when she went off on her, I would have knocked her out!! Was completely uncalled for and then she went and blabbed about the idol! I hope they lose so she can go home.
