I’m baaaack. I thought I’d run a quick First Impression blog past you since the cast was just announced yesterday. Enjoy.
Season 24 of Survivor is upon us. This is Survivor: One World. This season has a few changes from the past few seasons. The first big (and warranted) change is that no previous cast members are back to compete for a second or third time. Thank God for that. I was truly afraid we might end up seeing CBS asking cast members from other reality shows come on and compete, like someone like Omarosa.
The second big change is that the tribes are going to be split into two tribes, like always. One will be made up of nine women. The other will be made up of nine men. To be honest, I am not sure I like this twist. I think it’s a great idea for the show, but I’m just not sure I like the idea of them being split apart for the first half of the show. I like the interaction between the guys and girls throughout the entire season. This will drag that down and make it about sex.
BUT…the way they are combating that is what I love the most. They are having both tribes live on the same beach! So, we will get the interaction between the men and women, but they just won’t be on the same tribe to begin with. So, this will work wonders for the strategists of the show. You can start working with the other tribe from the very beginning of the season and everybody has the same opportunities to stake their claim to jury votes from the start of the game. You can work over the other tribe early and create alliances that may come into play once the merge occurs. I like this wrinkle a whole heck of a lot more than splitting the sexes up. In fact, I think since they are having the tribes live on one beach, it kind of makes no sense to split the tribes up by sex. I know that it will make for good television when it comes to having women vote out other women and all that catfight stuff going on, but it will also allow the other tribe the opportunity to help save a person from being voted off before their tribal happens. I don’t know, I’m torn. I like this idea a lot and think it’s great for the game, but it kind of goes against everything Survivor has been about for 23 seasons with it truly being a two-team show.
We’ll see what happens.
I think that Troy will be a crazy one. He lived with monkeys for 20 years!
I can’t wait for the season to start to read your recaps!
I miss Community. I’m going to have to watch Netflix to get my fix of Abed. I know this has nothing to do with survivor, but I knew you’d understand…haha.
I am super excited. Survivor in one day. I love the new twist. At least on paper, we will see how it plays out. FUN FUN
